Shame Off You!

Back in my pigtail and plaits days there were sometimes moments when I snuck in the fridge to eat cheese or butter or whatever looked like a heavenly piece of yumminess. There were times when I would fight over toys and accidentally hurt the fellow youngin that wanted it as much as I did. There were times when I spilled something that should not have been messed with in the first place and Mama or Grandma or teacher or whomever had to come clean up my mess and would point that finger at me and grunt out those piercing words, Shame on you! And it would make me feel exactly the way the words were meant to. I lowered my head, pouted and felt bad about what I did. Maybe even soaked in my own pity for a while. Childhood. The time in life when we learn right from wrong, conviction, and accountability for drawing on the walls. This is a part of the great cycle of learning.

I’ve learned as an adult, as I am sure you have to, that childhood issues carry into adulthood. Shame on you for this. Shame on you for that. We grow into womanhood carrying our shame on with us. Women I think are worse than men when it comes to this. We feel more. So we feel the burdens of the mistakes that we make especially if it affected someone that we care about. Typically, I said typically…., we don’t like to hurt other people.  But then there is that revenge thing that some of us get when you know who acts a plum fool and forgets that we’ve been holding them down even in the midst of our own brokenness. But that’s another story that I won’t get into right now. But none the less, we hurt in places that we can’t see carrying regret and shame and refusing to forgive ourselves for the mistakes that we have made. Saying to ourselves over and over again, Shame on me.

Baby girl it’s time to let your shame go. Sometimes it’s not obvious that you’re operating in shame. Search yourself for ways that you may be accepting less than what your heart desires because you feel you don’t deserve it. It’s not always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet and suddle. Like, not considering opportunities for increase. Shooting yourself down before you even start. Giving others preference over yourself.  These are all signs that you may have some letting go to do. I suggest to you today to get the Shame Off You.

Isaiah 61:7 says,

Instead of your [former] shame you shall have a twofold recompense; instead of dishonor and reproach [your people] shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore, in their land they shall possess double [what they had forfeited]; everlasting joy shall be theirs.

When we give our cares to God, He removes the burdens that comes with them. He takes on the heaviness that only He can carry and gives us in return a double portion of peace, healing, and restoration. We just have to accept His Goodness. I know it’s hard to believe that God is not pointing the finger at you from heaven yelling, “shame on you!”. But it’s true. He already knew every mistake we would make. He already knew about the hurts we would endure along the way. He already knew that you would need Him to make things right again or maybe even right for the first time in you’re life.

Psalm 3:3

But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.

He wants to lift you’re head and bring you into the goodness that He created specifically for you even before you were born.

Get the Shame off you!

XOXO
