When Daily Life Becomes Overwhelming

There are so many things I haven’t gotten a chance to do and so many things that I need to do. I have personal goals, business goals, family goals, marriage goals, goals concerning my kids and on and on. It can be a lot on the soul to be constantly reaching for more apples and never take the time to just enjoy the fruit you already have. What you have will go rotten waiting for you to gather the whole garden. Its ok to have goals but I realized that I had a problem because I was in a constant state of feeling overwhelmed. I was out of whack with my spirit and off balance. I had to step back and ask God what was wrong. Anytime I am deprived of peace and cohesiveness I know that I need to go back and seek God for direction. Being led by God’s peace has become my way of knowing if I’m going in the right direction. Sure as a mom, wife, and mompreneur my days will usually be full with activities and demands but even with that there should be a guiding peace to it all. There should still be a grace to steward what God has given. That being said, I had let go of some things and stop trying so hard to make up for the past. I had to stop trying to make up for lost time in my own strength. I wanted to catch up on everything I missed out on while still trying to meet new goals, all while maintaining my current responsibilities. That doesn’t work. We can’t have the past, the present and the future all in one space. That sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie and though those movies are based around some aspect of science, they are fiction. In other words, impossible to be carried out in real life.

When I found myself in this place I had to change my perspective a little bit and give God control and trust Him. I had to let go of the things and time I was feeling that I missed out on that I was so profusely trying to make up for. We have to allow ourselves to be ok with it and give that burden to God. Everything that happened or didn’t happen is going to be used by God to make us better and also our life better. Let go and trust God not only with the good things but trust him with the bad things. Trust Him with your mistakes. Trust Him with your flaws and brokenness. He uses EVERYTHING even the things that hurt you for your good. Not one tear and not one experience wasted. Leave the past in His hands and show up today. Today you have new mercies and new grace to conquer what’s right in front of you. God really cares about what we are doing right now in the lives of our children, in the lives of our husband, in our home life. How are we injecting God’s goodness into our homes? Do we spend time in our kid’s bedrooms establishing relationship with them or do we only go in there yelling at them to clean up their rooms? Did we stop moving for a moment to sit and enjoy a movie with the mister? Are we remembering to pay the bills that we have now on time and keep household affairs in order or is everything in disarray? Sometimes when we dive too hard into the future it takes our focus off of today and we can miss all the precious moments that exist around us right now. Look at how far God has already brought you. My life today is a miracle compared to the early struggles I faced in my marriage while struggling with 3 small children that I couldn’t properly care for. Sometimes I just have to stop and thank God for the small victories like actually having a bed! I’m so serious ya’ll. It was rough for ya girl. I had some dark days but by the grace of God I am at a place now where I can actually enjoy my days and see Gods light upon my face.

One thing I have learned is that the more you take care of what you have the more God elevates you. The more you invest into the people He has given you the more life invests back into you. When we take the necessary steps today to show up where He has called us then He reveals the next steps and leads us to the road of prosperity and fulfillment that is uniquely ours. He is constantly unraveling and unfolding new life unto us. The power is in the journey. And there is a level of freedom and clarity that comes with finding His voice for Today.

Joel 2:25

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten…

Isaiah 55:12

For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Consider these two scriptures as you release what’s overwhelming you and seek God’s direction for today.
